B.E (The Entrepreneur) Episode 1 - First day in IT industry.

Karan’s First Day at Work

With the end of the Corona outbreak, life gradually returned to normal. Government officials announced that the newly developed vaccine was highly effective and reliable. People started stepping out of their homes, resuming their daily routines. Factories reopened, workers returned to their shifts, and IT employees began filling up office spaces. Many companies adopted a hybrid model, with half of the workforce working from the office while the rest operated from home on a rotational basis.

On a Monday morning, Karan woke up early, excited for his first day at work. He had secured a job at an IT company in Bangalore’s IT hub and was set to begin his Work from Office week. Determined to make a great first impression, he got ready quickly and left for the office, knowing that no one wants to be late on their first day.

Karan had completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2020, persevering through the challenges of the pandemic to finish his final exams. Despite the difficult times, he managed to score a CGPA of 8 and applied to multiple companies. Fortunately, he got selected in the very first interview for the company he was now joining.

Upon reaching the office on time, he noticed several freshers waiting in the seating area while experienced employees settled into their workstations, picking up from where they had left off on Friday. IT companies generally followed a Monday-to-Friday schedule, ensuring weekends were free unless urgent client work required their attention.

After a 30-minute wait, all the freshers were guided into a meeting room, where their mentor for the day arrived. The session began with self-introductions, and Karan attentively listened to his colleagues before introducing himself.

Karan came from a middle-class family. He had a younger sister, Radhika, a college student. His father worked at a leather factory, while his mother was a homemaker.

Once introductions were completed, the mentor shared insights into the company's history. Following this, the freshers were asked to sign essential employment documents related to their salary package and bank details. The training schedule for the upcoming weeks was also shared.

During lunch, Karan visited the cafeteria, which occupied an entire floor of the building. As a newcomer to the corporate world, he was fascinated by the huge IT park setup.

Post-lunch, the freshers engaged in team-building games, fostering camaraderie among them. Soon, the first workday came to an end, and everyone headed home.

Karan lived 15 km away from the office, and due to Bangalore’s traffic, it took him nearly an hour to reach home. Had he taken his bike, the journey would have been much shorter, but he had chosen not to ride on his first day. He finally arrived home at 7 PM.

At home, he found Radhika busy with her college assignments. His father scolded him for not calling when he left the office, while his mother warmly took his bag and handed him a hot dinner, already plated.

As he ate, he enthusiastically shared his first-day experience with his family. Feeling exhausted yet content, he went to bed, eager to see what the next day had in store.
